I was reading the calories in vs calories out thread and I was wondering is exercise really not needed for weight loss. Right now I am obese and moving to a new city and starting to get a new job. I just don't have time or energy for exercise.

So again is exercise really needed? Provided that you are not starving yourself.

obese people have no place in the gym. what are you going to be able to accomplish in the gym if you cant even stick to a decent diet? you dont need to exercise to lose weight, you just need to eat less. its very easy to do.

Yes. Every time you lose weight you are also losing muscle. By dieting and not working out you are not doing your body any favors. You have the time, you just don't want to make it.

I force myself every morning to get up at 5 a.m. and go to the gym. It is the only time I have since I work full time and have kids. It is tough as nails, but energizes me for the day.

You can start slowly with just doing ten minutes of walking in the morning and at night. Try and get twenty minutes in a day and work your way up from there.

Don't listen to Captain. Obese people have every right to be in the gym and get healthy.

I really do not have time for exercise, I am just too tired and have been lacking energy recently. To be honest I have no idea what I am doing or should be doing in a gym. I don't have excessive muscle but I will try at least walking for 20 mins.

haha because tons of obese people are going to the gym and getting healthy. obese people go to the gym to lift 5 pound weights, walk a few minutes on the treadmill, then go home and eat a big mac, large fries and an entire chocolate cake. its pointless to go to the gym until you have shown you can at least stick to a decent diet.

Most of the weight you lose will come from dieting, so no you don't need to exercise in order to lose weight.

I still recommend exercising because it has so many other benefits besides weight loss.

i bet most obese people who exercise end up gaining weight. they will reward themselves for exercising with additional food. how many fat people in the gym do you see not being fat over time? ive been going to the same gym for 8 years and the same fat people 8 years ago are still fat.

Truly watch what you eat and start walking. No need to join a gym unless that will help motivate you. Cut back on calories and walk 15 minutes to an hour everyday. You will start losing weight quickly if you are doing neither of those things right now. Eventually you may want to add a higher intensity exercise into your routine because the weight will be harder to lose as you get closer to your ideal weight. I think sometimes the hardest thing for a lot of people is carving the time out of your day to exercise.

Good luck.
