I swear, PLing and weight lifting are the only sports where people compare impressive feats to the most elite lifters and shrug them off because they aren't world records. A 17 year old benching 700 lbs in gear is still very impressive.
If you look at most youtube comments on [insert american athlete here] weightlifting videos (olympic).. most will be negative, nitpick technique and compare to elite athletes in the rest of the world... i.e., oh Jon North only did 160 snatch, well 77 lifter Liu X did xxx weight... terrible.

Yea the U.S. weight lifters get a lot of sh*t that they don't deserve. Truthfully I think the main reason the U.S. is so behind in weight lifting is simply a matter of the size of the pool of lifters we have to choose from. Most people with the genetics to reach the elite level end up playing in the NFL or some other lucrative sports. Weight lifters in China and Russia sports stars where as in the U.S. nobody cares.

Sorry didn't mean to derail this thread. I just don't like to see anyone dismiss a 17 year old pressing 700 lbs. Who cares how long his arms are and that he's in a bench shirt. It's 700 f*cking pounds. Most people in this thread probably can't even bench three plates lol.

Glad you cleared that up.

One reason that he has the potential to go a long way.

It is pretty silly that arm length isn't taken into consideration. It's like have Yao Ming do a vertical jump and measuring how high his final reach was as opposed to final reach compared to his original reach. A pretty poor way to measure strength.

The weight of a person lifting is taken into consideration.

Kid was on some sauce. That is indisputable.

Anyway, I don't know why people are so impressed with that. I guess, it's a goal if you want to damage your body in the long run.

However, this is 1000x more impressive.

The first and last PL comp I did (raw) I did 270 at 142. I started olympic lifting though... sure I could do that at 132 (my weight at last olympic competition)

With what evidence? USADA spent millions of dollars and couldn't even get 'indisputable evidence' from Lance Armstrong...

its impossible for us to get evidence and everyone that uses steroids knows to deny deny deny. so you have to make your own guess. i will tend to assume that any competitive athlete that has a reason to use something, uses something. thats just been my first hand experience and it makes a whole lot of sense to me. oh, and i have no issue with it and dont consider it cheating.
