So if you are a late 20's male, 5'11 and not fat or chubby but 20-30 pounds to lose what kind of body would you expect to have after 4 months of doing this workout and eating healthy and only 1,500-1,700 calories a day?

Saturday: 60 minutes swimming
Sunday: 60 minutes swimming
Monday: 60 minutes cardio (elliptical and stairmaster)
Tuesday: 60 minutes Row Machine
Wednesday 60 minutes Cardio (same as Monday)
Thursday: 60 minutes Row Machine

What kind of body do you think one would have after that stint?

You'll lose weight, but in the absence of weight training and on that few calories, you won't be muscular at all. That's a lot of cardio...too much in my opinion.

You have 20 or 30 lbs to lose but are not fat or chubby? How do you know how much you need to lose, what is your body fat percent?

Looks like you are going for the toothpick look.

I just have a solid football/lacrosse build so I have "bigger build" but I want to get a leaner cut.

To be honest, I plan on switching my workout every 4 months. So after this stint I will probably do weightlifiting and cardio for four months and then change it again. I kind of want to get a lean cut by getting a low body fat percentage, and then evaluate there how much I want to bulk up.

You'd be better off incorporating weight training into your routine from the beginning.

Intense weight training will help lean you out better than all of that steady state cardio. I'd suggest more lifting with maybe 20 minute HIIT sessions 3-4 times a week. That way you don't sacrifice too much of the muscle you already have.

How much is your body fat percent now? What do you want it to be?

I think you will end up with an overtraining effect, and either burn out and give up, or get injured. Split up your workouts so that you are targeting an area once every 3 days or so. For example instead of swimming 2 days in a row, swim on Sunday and Wednesday.

Also I suggest try some running instead of elliptical and stairmaster. You need to throw in a little core work too.

I think your calories may be a little too restrictive... have you calculated your BMR? For someone who is 5'11 and male, that could be a fairly drastic cut in addition to what you would already be burning with 60 minutes of cardio 6 days a week... but YMMV.

At any rate, I think it's good that you are doing the rowing machine. That actually does incorporate a lot of muscles. But I think you should still incorporate at least some weight training into your routine. The last thing you want is to be "skinny fat".

But don't the Rowing Machine and swimming help tone/strengthen muscles? I mean ever since I started rowing my biceps have gotten bigger and my triceps as well. From swimming I am noticing more definition on my back and also my pecs are getting stronger.

While I know rowing and swimming aren't the same as weight training they are resistance workouts. So I they are strengthen my muscles.

Thanks for the advice. My problem with running is that I hate it on the treadmill. It kills me. I run in the summer outside, but not with fall it's starting to get a little too cool.
