What do you wear in cold weather to run in? I cannot even handle running with a my phone attached to my arm or wearing head phones. If my shirt is too long or my pants move too much I get really annoyed. I also have to do my hair a certain way so it doesn't move too much. I'm so high maintenance about things not bugging me when I run. I think it might be because I don't really love to run but I make myself do it so I can eat the things I want to eat. Did I say that? I LOVE being a runner!!

What are the coldest temps you run in and what are your favorite brands? How do you stay warm? Or do you just take it inside in cold weather?

Used to live in Idaho and would run outside as long as it was above 15 degrees. Would rather run in cold temps than the 100+ temps that I deal with in Arizona now. Got most of my cold weather gear at Target, it's cheap and it works.

I do a bunch of exercises indoors before I go out so that I am already warm.

Get some of those cold weather spandex/stretch running clothes. UnderArmor is a popular brand (but IMO overpriced). I have some Nike stuff which was given to me. It works wonders keeping me warm, and is not annoying or cumbersome to wear.

When it is freezing out, I wear some stretch glove "liners" on my hands. I dislike bulky gloves when jogging, but find just the stretch fabric liners work well to keep the bite of the cold off my skin comfortably.

Thanks for the info. Yes, Under Armor is great stuff but very expensive. Will definitely try the glove liners! Think I will try out some stuff from Target until I'm more committed to running when it is 20 degrees outside

I usually wear layers, not too many: When you go outside you should shiver slightly (not freeze heavily!). After the first couple of minutes you'll feel warm enough to not freeze and cold enough to not sweat.

Depends on where you live and how important running is to you. Where I live, running in 20+ degree weather is a luxury. Its nice when it happens, but can be a rarity. This morning, it was -1 with a windchill of -13. I was toasty warm. What did I have on?

I wore a pare of cw/x insulator tights with a pair of Under Armour training pants over top. I had an Under Armour cold gear mock turtle neck with a long-sleeve tech shirt over top. Then I put on a fleece three-quarter zip shirt and a thing wind resistant jacket as an outer layer. I wore a Under Armour cold gear hat/mask with another Under Armour watch cap over top. A pair of wool socks and gortex and Brooks Ghost 6 shoes. Lastly, I had on a pair of Brooks 4-in-one mittens and chemical hand warmers.

I was almost too warm. Could probably have taken off one layer on top. Otherwise, I felt great. Was that an expensive outfit? Yes, but it did the trick. I can't put a price on my comfort. Normally (20 degrees or warmer), I would have stopped at the fleece shirt on top and would have eliminated the wind pants. I also would have probably only worn the watch cap.

Dressing for warmth is an individual thing. Some people could have gotten by with a lot less. Others would have skipped the workout totally. Different strokes for different folks. You just have to find out what works.
