COLUMBIA, Mo. –In the first study of its kind, using sophisticated methods to measure body composition, the nationally known commercial weight loss program, Weight Watchers, was compared to gym membership programs to find out which method wins in the game of good health. A University of Missouri researcher examined the real-life experiences of participants to determine which program helps people lose pounds, reduce body fat and gain health benefits. The answer is that both have pros and cons and that a combination of the two produces the best results.

I think it takes a balanced approach to losing weight. Weight Watchers helps you pay attention to what you're eating (although I disagree with all their processed foods) where a gym membership (if used), helps with exercise

To compensate for the calorie deficit you're creating, you need a lot of protein. Split it across the day and aim for 1g per 0.5kg of your bodyweight. Fat doesn't actually make you fat. Refined carbs are to blame for the podge around your middle. Healthy fats fuel your training, encourage muscle growth and, crucially, teach your body to burn fat for energy.

There are so so many variables. From my perspective there are certain foods I do feel addicted to. I'm 58 and have eaten either ruffles potato chips or doritos every day of my life for.......35 years? I'll be surprised if I don't get stomach cancer. The ruffles were starting to give me sharp stomach pains so of course all I did was switch brands and alternate btw doritors, chips an cheetos.
I was not a soda drinker, fast food eater. I have eaten good clean food for awhile although perhaps too many carbs/pasta.
But I got really fat from the chips (and dip). I'm not joking, everyday. I would come home and that's the firs thing I would do was eat some. Then more after dinner. On weekends I would eat chips while I was reading, watching TV, pretty much on and off all day.
I'm a chipaholic.
I haven't had any since my birthday approx 4 months ago and feel like I deserve a coin like AA members get. I joined WW a week before my birthday.
I treat the WW meetings like a AA mtg. I have WW pages on my FB feed.
It is really hard for me not to snack and the potato chip aisle at the grocer store feels like a mine field. Lately the smell of pizza has been really hard.
A fitness center isn't going to help with that.
