Hi all. I joined the Y this week and would like to hear any experiences using the Vortex pool to work out. I've never been in one. What does a person do?

Edit:Also any advise on skin care if I plan on using the pool for a large part of my workout?

I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I got my butt out of bed and went early. Turns out the Y is a ghost town on a Sunday morning. I walked against the current, I ducked down and ran, and i hit the hot tub. Legs are sore...mission accomplished. I noticed the people that were there had on swim caps.

Never heard of a vortex pool but for skin and hair care always, always, get your hair wet under a shower before entering any pool. Dry hair in a chlorinated pool soaks up all the chemicals like a sponge. As far as skin care goes, just make sure you shower afterwards and use lotions with moisturizers.

Hi L8Gr8Apost8,
I'm a water exercise instructor, what do you mean by Water vortex? Is that similar to a lazy river with sort of a cul de sac thing that has a current?
I agree with the poster below that suggested getting your hair wet first. Everyone's supposed to shower before getting in, but the hair especially is important.
