If a person has a job that requires lots of walking, how does one build up endurance to walk longer, quicker without getting tired?

If a person were to start running, jogging, wouldn't they be even more tired when they are already exhausted from all the walking from work?

What about squats, weights, ETC? Will strengthening legs help?

I would think that the best way to build your endurance for walking is by simply progressively walking longer and faster as you are able to increase the distance and pace. You want to train the muscles to function better and longer in the way they are used for walking, and the best way to do that is by walking. Walking also increases your cardio endurance. Walking every other day is fine. Make an effort to go a little further each time and a little faster for more of the walk and you should find yourself making progress fairly quickly.

But I see that it appears that you may already be doing the job. If that's the case then you're already getting the walking exercise and you'll just have to give it time for you to adjust and increase your physical capacity. And doing some weight training won't hurt either. The stronger you are the lighter you'll be on your feet.

Strength-training will definitely help. The stronger your legs are, the less fatigued they will be from walking.

Don't forget your core. A stronger core helps you maintain good posture and takes some of the strain off your back.

If the person in question is carrying excess weight.....losing it would probably help.

I agree, weight is a big factor. You rarely see big professional body builders (with strong legs) competing in marathons.

I think the endurance comes with just doing it. Sure, you might be tired at first, but that's just normal when you're more active than usual. But keep it up, day after day, and pretty soon you'll be doing fine.
