Whatever works for you. If you are seeing results without injury then you are doing something right.

Some do do a form check with just the bar. I don't see a problem with that.

Yeah, well it's a lot different maintaining correct form at 95% of your 1RM versus the bar. You can cheat with low weight but not with heavy weight.

Unfortunately, my bench press is still intermediate level. Hopefully, I can make some solid gains this year.

What does your training look like? My gains seem to have improved when I started doing that 10/12x2 system.

I've done just about every rep/set scheme out there. I haven''t tried 12x2 yet. Tomorrow, I'm doing 3x8 on the flat bench and 3x10 on the decline bench.

I'd image that a 12x2 workout would be using around 80% of your max, maybe a little more.

Yes. Most I've ever put up is 280. 230 would be 82% and 250 is 89%. That's why I like it: I get a lot of reps that are close to my 1rm. I've not tried to break that 280 in quite a while but I likely will this month. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

You might also want to try heavy singles at 95% of you max, 3-5 reps. Anyway, let me know how it goes.

I've actually thought about this and want to try it. My workout partner is on leave until the end of the week so we'll probably give this a shot next week.
