Yeah, and they like to talk about how hard they're working. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.

On the subject of headphones; they don't deter people like they used to. At most gyms there's always a couple of obnoxious do-nothings who think everyone is obligated to stop their workouts to talk to them. Headphones won't work, since they'll talk to you like they're not on or enter your personal space to try to get your full attention. I either have to pretend they don't exist or give them short answers and quickly get back to my workout. It's a shame the socialites have decided to ruin gyms everywhere instead of just going to a bar or joining a club, where everyone is actually in the mood to socialize.

I slowly take out my phone, slowly put it on pause, slowly take out one ear bud, and look up and say "excuse me?"

"Oh, uh... I said hi, howzit going?"

They slowly get the idea.

You sound like a real joy. You can workout and not talk if you don't want to, but you can at least say hi. I think more goes on with you and beyond the gym. Actually several on here really should get together, and form a gym chain for people just like them.

I'm not at the gym to entertain you. I'm there to push myself and then get back to my life. If that offends you then so be it.

I agree - I'm not at the gym to make friends, look pretty or to find a man; I'm there to work out, lose some weight and get healthier. I don't wear make-up to the gym unless I'm going there from somewhere else and I don't care if my hair needs a little help either. I have no problem with a quick nod or a hello but that's how I want to keep it. I need to stay focused and someone trying to start a conversation interrupts my concentration.

Amen!

I love seeing more ladies in my gym getting serious with their weight training. A lot of them are pushing harder than the dudes!

Keep it up!

Aloha

Just allow your body to move to the music, it would be hard to be easily distracted that way.
I don't mind wearing headphones on the cardio equipment, but really don't like them on the weights. Its not the chitter-chatter in the gym so much as people standing around taking up the equipment while talking, which to me is a waste of time in the gym.

I mainly get irritated at those people who treat the gym like a social club. It isn't hard to spot them, they might work out 50% of their time in the gym, talk the other 50%. I don't mind a little talk, until it disrupts your workout, blocks equipment you need etc.

Talk in the lobby and leave the gym floor for working out!

I will sometimes see a couple of fat broads yapping away gossiping in their annoying high pitched shrill voices on the cardio machines. While taking selfies and doing crap like that. And I'm thinking to myself, if they can talk and yap away like that on the machines then they aren't getting an intense enough workout. And no wonder they are still fat. LOL

Home gym. 100% great. Zero distractions. Machines without someone else's sweat. Zero motor/blabber mouths.
