I always did 30 minutes on the treadmill before lifting weights but then I was told by a trainer at my new gym to only do 5 minutes on the treadmill as a warm up, lift weights and then do my 30 minutes on the treadmill. I tried it that way and found it just didn't work for me. When I got done with weights I was too tired to use the treadmill.
Yep - exactly the same for me. I run first, otherwise I don't have the energy. Stretch, Run, Lift.
Not sure why a trainer would think this was wrong.

I think a good rule of thumb is to first ask yourself: which is more important to you? Strength or cardio?
Then do that first.
If you want to squat 500 but also train to run a marathon, that's going to be complicated but still achievable. I would check out the article I posted in my previous post in the thread, as I found it super helpful.
There was a Japanese study a while back that showed that doing cardio after lifting weights helped the arteries 'loosen' compared to the other way around. Lifting weights for some reason stiffens and hardens the arteries. Cardio after helps alleviate this.
I always did this anyways, but good to know science backs me up.
Cardio is muscle training just like weight training. It needs to be split just like weight training. Light, short cardio (10 minutes or so) is a good warm-up prior to weight training. But cardio for VO2 max gain has to be planned and cycled like any other training for gain.
I have it ingrained in me to never do cardio before weightlifting. You need all the energy you can for weightlifting.
