Right now, I am doing various forms of cardio (spinning and running) but no strength training. I'd like to add in either yoga or bar method to my routine to get more strength training in. There are two studios near me offering these deals and I'm trying to decide between them.
The options are:
Vinyasa yoga OR
Bar method
Out of these options, which would you choose? Keep in mind that I feel comfortable doing, and love both workouts, so it isn't a preference thing. It's entirely based on which would be the best workout and best option to supplement my spinning and running with.
I don't think bar method uses heavy enough weights so you wouldn't experience that great of a training effect. Yoga would provide more benefit as it offers body awareness, balance and flexibility. Flexibility would be really important especially being a runner and cyclist
Yoga is the best option. Yoga can change your physical and mental capacity quickly, while preparing the mind and body for long-term health. Vinyasa means breath-synchronized movement and Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling.

I've tried several types of yoga and I don't see any of them being good for building muscle. Flexibility, balance, etc, sure. If you want to strength train, lift. There is nothing like lifting. But if you're only considering these two (why?) the bar.
Yoga is a good choice, but have you thought about buying a Bar Method dvd? I'm guessing that they cost around $20 (plus shipping) directly from Bar Method's site. You won't need a barre, a sturdy chair will do, and you'll need light weights. And while you will not get one on one instruction, as you might in a class when the instructor walks around to correct form, you will get tips on proper form.

That would be a waste of $20.00. The yoga is far superior and would work better. Also, you can find FREE bar type workout routines on youtube.
Thanks for the input on recommending DVDs/YouTube, but I know myself and I know that a class environment is better for me and keeping up my motivation.
