Does anyone know if service dogs are allowed in gyms? Now there's a guy with a "service" dog with no leash in the gym. Everybody was like wtf. I don't want to worry about stepping around a dog while I'm trying to work out. Is this even allowed?? Give me a f-ing break

This is a first. I cannot imagine a service dog being allowed to go off leash, especially in a gym.
Today any dog can be a 'service' dog. Companies cannot discriminate against people with service dogs. But it seems to me the gym is taking it too far.
i would love to see some dogs in the gym. im not sure why it bothers you so much.
a gym isnt a restaurant where i would figure they would have greater reason to deny entry to a service dog. on what basis would they deny the dog entry?
i would expect that they may be required to have a leash on.
I don't know if the service dog without a leash is allowed but you can ask the staff about it. Personally dogs don't bother me at all . I have never seen one at my gym but if I did I wouldn't mind.
A service dog has legal right to accompany its handler to the gym, and anywhere else. Health clubs providers must provide an accommodating environment for people with disabilities to avoids potential legal trouble.
Under the ADA, it is illegal for places of public accommodations - including health clubs - to deny access to a person accompanied by a service animal in most circumstances.
It is not necessary for an individual to visually distinguish a service animal from one that is not. Meaning a dog not wearing a vest with “Service Animal” printed on the side could still be a service animal. Furthermore, a dog can be considered a service animal without requiring formal training; legally the dog’s owner can personally train it to do work related to the individual’s disability.

The dog is not on a leash. Not sure how busy your gyms are but here in Denver at 6:30 in the am they are busy!! You have people in all sections of the gym and doing jump rope, lunging squats, etc. People are constantly moving around.
The guy is NOT psychically disabled. This is the first time I've seen him in 5 years of going there. He was walking chest puffed out just fine strolling around the gym

He could have seizures, or something mental, PTSD, ... just like you cannot judge people with handicapped stickers on a sports car.
