No. So after doing several 14ers and fighting the crowds, I determined that doing the 13ers was a much better experience so I focused on those instead for the last few years I lived there. Instead of there being 700 people on the trail, there were like 7. My fav was Mt. Argentine, there were two peaks you could hit in one day and the views were amazing at the top. You need a very good 4wd to get to the trailhead though.

It seems 14ers and 13ers are more suited for mountaineers than for an average hiker (if we separate them into two categories) while it's good to know websites such as 14ers.

Not at all. Many are relatively easy and some even have trailheads that are already above 10,000 feet so there isn't a ton of grueling climbs on several of them. I never needed ropes or climbing gear or anything like that on the 13er/14ers I completed. Just good hiking boots and a backpack with food/water.

Good to know, thanks for such insight, @Florida2014, also, may I pm you for your input on something that may be not suitable for the general public?

I do, and belong to two: both for single hikers in the PacNW: groups, on FB. The upside is rapid facilitation of discussion. Also decent and visible ways to create events (hikes). Downside, as with any group, is difficulty in searching potentially valuable information from the past.

I mostly joined for the "curated hikes" as I call it vs. socialization, being a loner at-best and disagreeable at-worst. Most of the participants are there for the opposite reason... and power to 'em. They're well moderated and drama shut down quickly, that's important as creeps will find a way in otherwise and scare off half the field. In fact I've found more joy in Eastside Runners group, that being more my jam, same caveats apply: awesome curated runs (courses) but also a chance for others to be social...who choose to. Or loners like me thank the organizers, pay our dues ($20/year ) and run off into the sunset. Or sunrise, more likely.

Your area almost certainly has similar groups.

Thanks for the info @Blondebaerde, ahe, too bad I'm no longer on FB, and unlikely to sign up with them.

For those who hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains, this guy is an inspiration to me. He can drive up from Sacramento and do these incredible hikes at high elevations in his seventies - https://tedmuller.us/Outdoor/HikingTrails.htm

I use a mobile app called Alltrails. And it's a lot of fun.

All,

At the risk of being accused of promo, my startup has created edible coffee (and it's tasty!), I think it would be perfect for hikers and other outdoor sports. PM me if you want to give it a try.
