I had always equated "resistance bands" with the paper-thin things you buy at Walmart. In the course of physical therapy for some shoulder issues, the PT had me using what he called "mobilization bands." These things are an entirely different animal. They are very thick rubber bands that seem to be indestructible and will give you a serious workout. I can hardly believe I've been working out with weights to enhance sports performance for years without being aware of them. I have now bought the entire set and they have almost entirely replaced my weights (which were responsible for the shoulder issues in the first place). If you're working out with dumbbells or weights of less than 100 pounds or so, these seem to me to do the job more safely and conveniently.

This is just an example, there are dozens of choices on Amazon:

The Walmart I shop at also carries the thick rubber bands. I've bought them there from light to super-heavy resistance levels. They can wear out over time however. I did have one snap on me after a while. They are good and you can get a good workout with them but I would never give up weight training with free weights in favor of them.

I have a set of these giant rubber bands and use them to help strengthen my back because I had two fractured vertebrae from a slip & fall last December. I tire easily from a previous TBI and the following month flat on my back while healing. They work if done daily.
