Hello all. I will traveling to the area in early June and car rental rates are outrageous. I will be going from FAI to my hotel in North Pole. While in North Pole, I will be staying in town visiting family and not going out in the wilderness sightseeing or anything.

My question is would Uber/Lyft get me to and from the airport and around North Pole for a few days or should I just spring big bucks for the rental car? (I know Uber/Lyft has been less reliable in my current city since COVID, just wanted to check)

Thanks.

Maybe try asking on the Fairbanks subreddit. I don't know that any of use use Lyft or Uber. They won't come as far out as my house, so... no go for me.

I agree about the rental rates. I just had to rent a car in Anchorage and holy cow.

Thanks. Given these responses and what I know about Uber availability since COVID began...car is booked. Pricey, but it is what it is. Thanks.

I'd fly to Homer, then drive a loaded truck to Fairbanks, then park the truck and visit family. The trucking Co can "double hump" the truck back South to reload it again.

591 miles, so it's a full day's drive. (Gotta watch those HOS's, ya know!)

Or, load it up with freight to go Southbound. Make a few thousand dollars, then fly home!
