That's a disgrace. The plane is part of our military history and should be treated with respect.

I was raised on Air Force bases and I've never seen an airplane treated so badly.

I dunno... all these great flying machines were put in a desert after the war. And than promptly chopped up by these huge scissor- like equipment for scrap metal.
At least this one got an extention on its life and a chance for a new life.

There are a lot of old birds all across the world and a lot of enthusiasts out there as well. I love old radial engined planes. Here are some of mine....

Yeah, I know about the desert of military aircraft. Plus, I've seen "Best Years of our Lives."

Still and all, it's sad to see a beautiful aircraft peeking out of a lake and looking like a depressed alligator waiting for Clive Cussler to write a book about it.

These old military planes are alive to me. I grew up around them. I love them. Depending on what is around the shore it seems to me that it would not take all that much to haul that baby onto dry land.

We are still finding our C47s combat cargos that crashed or were shot down over The Hump. They cannot be restored but this little beauty could be. She might not be air worthy but she sure could be strutting herself somewhere on base.

And oh what tales she could tell........

Well this is my friends album with my pictures in it as well. I'm the one polishing the planes, not the young one with a wife and a baby

OMG!!!

Did you take those pictures? Did you do all that research on the histories of the planes?

Be still my heart!!! What a fantastic collection. Those golden oldies are enough by themselves to lure me to Fairbanks. And come to think of it, Alaska is the only state in the Union that I have never visited.

Is that a B17? That is a hunk of an airplane. Great pics. Thanks. These airplane pictures are just wonderful. I should get out my SAC patch and sew it on something.
