I am an old hippie who came of age wearing Earthshoes and Birkies.
These days it's Danskos, Riekers and Munros. Either way, I am 56 years old and it's been years of wearing wide toe boxes and cushioned soles.
High heels were never, ever my thing. I wore flats at my wedding; I didn't even use lipstick until after age 40!
I have bunions and my feet resemble the pictures in the first link.
I have Birkenstocks, Mephistos, all those types of shoes. They really hurt my feet. Strange, isn't it?? I find the arch in those shoes is a killer...and even though one's feet are supposed to adapt, my feet certainly didn't. still have nice feet though..
I started wearing high heels at age 14, but only for special occasions. At age 19, I got a job in a bank and everyone dressed up every day, including wearing high heels. Not talking some lame-azz inch and a half cuban heel here. Talking 3 1/2 or 4 inch skinny heels. I didn't drive, so I rode the bus to work - walked, in heels, to the bus stop a block from my house. Walked from the bus terminal to the bank, a block and a half. Worked all day in heels and reversed my bus ride home. This was in the era of pointy toe shoes.
Through the years, I had jobs that called for heels, and jobs that called for wear-what-you-want.
I am now 75, and my feet are fine, tyvm. No bunions, no calluses, no deformities of any kind.
I wore heels, albeit only 2 1/2 inch, to my granddaughter's wedding in October. Managed to walk in, walk out, and dance, without changing my shoes or having sore feet.
Go figure.

I wanna be just like you I still have nice feet, although I certainly don't wear heels as much as I used too. Today, I wore a beautiful pair of heels, and my feet are fine.
It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with high heels. I knew young girls with feet that looked like that (and required surgery) and they never wore heels.
I agree. I am from Russia where MOST women wear high and very high heel shoes DAILY, on a regular basis-even when they go to work in a public transportation when they spend 1-2 hours every day standing in a bus wearing THIS or when they go shopping or work or even grocery shopping , normally it starts when they are 13-14 yo and lasts till 50 yo. (sometimes older than that) and I can not say that their feet or legs are terrible. I have seen few women with really bad feet, but these are either people with some kind of diaseases or they were in ballet school (like I was when I was a child).
