I already stated that I did it for the simple, vain reason that I thought it looked good and I had it pierced before I moved into Philly - at which point I realized that tattoos and piercings here were a lot more common than where I came from and seem to be generally accepted, even when worn by those in customer-oriented positions. Not once did I imply that I was doing it 'because everyone else was'(please, don't people normally strive to do the opposite in the name of "independence"?)

Obviously I don't think it makes me 'edgy' or any worthwhile statement. I like the way it looks, I'm willing to part with it or at least wear retainers if it gets in the way of my ability to earn money. I am pursuing lighting design for live events/theatre, this is not a corporate environment, and while I never say never - 95% of the time, a facial piercing will not hinder you. However, I will take the piercing out for interviews in the future, especially seeing the attitudes of some of the people in this thread.

I agree that there's a thin line between trashy and decent looking when it comes to piercings and tattoos. I am generally one to overdress rather than underdress and I consider myself to have a fairly universally appealing sense of style - if my nose ring is the only thing that illicits some sort of debate or dislike, so be it, I'm pretty fond of it and will continue to wear it when I can.

Did you get the job yet, kiddo?

Don't pay attention to the naysayers. Nose ornaments rock, except the ugly ones going thru the septum. Just be yourself and remember me when I'm coming for my tall carmel macchiato and make it venti

LOL, aw, I see plenty of people rock the septum - I however, will not be anytime soon. Yes, I had a bit of good luck this week and got offered a pretty cool gig running lights for some productions that I ended up choosing over starbucks - I did take the ring out for the interview and asked about the dresscode, they said I could wear a bandaid(hah, no thanks) over it or take it out - I would've just taken it out and worn a retainer. Thanks for you positive words!

I can't believe they asked you to take it out

If they did that to the ladies I know, their heads will be under the gun. But like Opis said, when they find the target to be of a minority ethnic group, they just let them do their thing. Funny how that works

Perhaps both apply. Perhaps not. Either way, what concern could it possibly be of yours (unless you are the one doing the hiring for this particular individual)?
