I have found some really cute dresses at Torrid.com. They have stores too but usually they have a better selection online. I found some cute dresses there for a semi- formal occasion and they were reasonably priced. Some of the styles are a little young but they do have some that aren't. Sometimes you can get lucky at Dillard's or Macy's but they are usually overpriced in my opinion.

I love the clothes at Alight.com. They even have them sorted by event type. Some are a bit pricey. I haven't ever ordered from them.
