When Barbara Bush made them popular again, I think people took another look at how they could be worn and what they could be worn with.
Grandma Babs is the greatest!
I wear pearls quite frequently, usually just in my ears. I do have a few pearl necklaces, of varying styles, but with the office extreme-casual dress code we have around here, I'd stick out like a sore thumb!
I have a pearl and gold rope chain that I bought my Grandmother one Christmas because she always wore fake pearls and I always told her one day she would have the real thing, So when I was honeymooning in Hawaii I bought her a Pearl necklace and earrings and after she passed I got them back and wear them from time to time if I am dressy
I used to wear them, mostly with lingerie though, but also with other garments. I wounder if I still have a couple of strands tucked away with other long lost gems.
I have these strands of pearls that were passed down to me by my mother - I love the look of pearls with a formal dress, and I have worn pearl studs and a pearl necklace to weddings before. I couldn't wear them with a daily outfit (the necklace anyway), it'll probably look too old on me considering I'm only 18.

I am the opposite. I think it is easier to pull off a pearl necklace, especially a longer one on a casual day than pearl studs.
In the 1970's when banks had to compete for business...everytime my Grandma made a deposit they would gift her with one cultured pearl...well long story short over time she had enough to make a necklace and gave it to me...I wore them on my wedding day...my daughter wore them for her high school graduation...and hopefully oneday will wear them on her wedding day...they are timeless!
I have a number of pearl earrings -- but not studs -- I like movement in earrings. I don't want a necklace of pearls -- too Marge Simpson. And I prefer baroque pearls....
One of the keys to wearing pearls is to choose and age appropriate size. Adult women should not wear teenager sized pearls.
