There is always a note of hostility in threads that begin this way, no? It is as if the writer knows the right way to dress/wear makeup/choose shoes and wants readers to agree with him or her about it. There is a note of mockery in these threads that I seem to detect.
None of us knows why about any of this. Perhaps we know why we do something, but that's as far as it goes.
I want to suggest that passing judgement on other people's manner of dressing is a waste of mental energy. I would really like to see gentler discussions of fashion and makeup and self care. But I think many posts are really too negative to be enjoyable.
So we should just always be accepting of things no matter what? I don't care what anyone says, as women that like quality men I know the way we dress/look influences the kind of men my daughter and I will attract.

Am I the only one?
Because a great many people confuse their own subjective preferences with objective truths.
They simply cannot comprehend that their tastes are not right, but merely something that they prefer.
It is self-centered to say the least, bordering on narcissism.

Well, there are two sides to this. It's obviously bad if someone thinks their personal preferences are simply right and not preferences.
On the other hand, I've encountered people who seem to need other people to append every statement of opinion with something like "...in my opinion" or else they go into a tizzy. That is a little frustrating too.
Unfortunately, I think there are also some people who do this intentionally. I think that they say the opposite of what others want to hear to get a rise out certain or all posters. When people troll like that, it keeps potential posters from wanting to get involved in an online conversation.
I agree I would like to see gentler, well thought discussions of fashion and makeup.
I think it's great that people have different points of view, it just doesn't have to come across as judgmental.

I am objecting to the condemnation of other people's viewpoints. Of course you have a right to feel the way you do. And, yes, I think we should be accepting of many things that don't impact us directly. Really, who are we to judge? A wise teacher once said, "Judge not that ye be not judged."
How other people dress is not my business, unless it affects me adversely in some way. I find many of the posts in this thread to be very judgmental and negative. And I don't feel very many good things are passed on by posters.
So we should just always be accepting of things no matter what?
Well, yes.
