1. Do you think it would suit either men or women better?
2. Could you please suggest any famous brands of similar hats?
3. Could you please suggest any online stores that sell them?
Google hunting outfitters such as Cabellas, LLBean.
Thanks. I just have. Cabellas and LLBean have nothing that looks close. I'm not searching for a hunting hat. The hat is supposed to be worn in a city during cold winter months.
I have already seen this site before. Trapper hats are fine but I'd love something more refined, a little bit less bulky.
I had my fur hat made to measure by Sue Moore a furrier in Alaska, its a full crown Canadian red beaver with ruff and silk lining and all hand stitched, if I remember rightly it was around $200.
Take a look here at some of her work, she will make just about any style hat in a variety of furs Howling Wolf Furs
That bow on the top has a purpose. Those strings are needed to hold the flaps in place when you don't need them down. If you think the bow looks too feminine, just knot it and tuck the strings in. The design of that hat is like a winter rider's cap that one would buy at an equestrian store (they have small brims like that, on the men's version as well as the women's). But the real ones of those are designed to fit over riding helmets, so this is obviously a fashion version.
A classic deer stalker hat (like the one worn by Sherlock Holmes) has ear flaps and a brim in the back, too, to shield the neck. I can't say, though, I've seen one with fur ear flaps. They are usually made of a menswear wool fabric or suede, which if lined could also be warm. If you're still googling for options, try that term, also "trooper" hat and "trapper" hat. Those styles are others with ear flaps.
BTW, I think it's wonderful there's a hat model called the "Gorbachev"!
