So the question is, why do women find guys in speedos not attractive only in the US? Certainly women in Asia, Europe, South America, etc. do not think that way.
Shrug. Most likely, it boils down to pop culture. Look at all the commercials out there for advertisements showing guys at the beach. They all show guys in long shorts, or in some cases, they'll show a guy in a Speedo as some sort of joke.
Americans are a lot more uptight about our bodies and how we look than the rest of the world is. In Brazil for example, you'll see both "ugly" and "good" looking people showing lots of skin. You'll see guys in Speedos, and you'll see women in skimpy two pieces. With both cases, you'll see people that aren't exactly the attractive type... but they don't care, because it's what everyone wears, whether you are attractive or not.
It's like going to a nude beach and being the only one wearing a swimsuit, you're going to be the odd person out and getting all the stares.
Exactly! Women don't think speedos are unattractive. American women love speedos, on the right guys. Not on the paunchy, blobby guys.
It doesn't matter what kind of guy wears them in this country. They're not viewed as being in style. If a good looking guy got dressed up for a formal function, but instead of the standard suit/tie, he decides to wear suspenders and a bow tie, people are going to pass judgment, and think he made a poor choice, regardless of whether he's attractive or not. Speedos represent the same bad fashion choice in this country.
I'll bet a Ben Franklin if you polled a statistically-valid sampling of 100 American women, say age 18-50, and asked them if they "liked" the visual of an average man in speedos....then did the same with 100 American men, similar demographic, if they "liked" a well-endowed woman in a bikini...
...You'd have vastly more "nays" among the women vs. men.
It's simply effete and in generally poor taste unless you're a competing athlete. I find it a reasonable bet Europeans have a somewhat-different take on aesthetics, based on their cars, entertainment, and so much else. More love of elegance and shall we say, sleekness (if that is a word).
Are you trying to say that the average American female 18-50 is more attracted to the female body than the male?
Not sure how the use of the word "effete" is supposed to be taken here.
Have you seen most American men? Fat, hairy pale, etc.
Besides, Speedos are damn uncomfortable. I swim laps in a jammer and wear trunks for casual. My boys need some breathing room.
Besides, who wants to be known as "That guy in the speedo"?
Well, they wouldnt be pale if they could wear speedos. Plus, im pretty sure theres a lot more freedom of movement in a speedo that there is with board shorts/culottes (which would help with exercising).
