My mother in law is in her 80s and still says she is middle aged when age comes up. Yep, I guess she is if she is planning on living until 165.
She has a wonderful attitude! Attitude is everything!
As I've said on other threads, I don't age...I stay exactly the same age I was 20 years ago!
As far as people asking to guess how old they are...only has happened to me once, and it was a 92 year old lady asking if I could guess. She looked to be in her early 80s.
The bottom line, many of us have a hard time accepting aging. Our society does not put value on being older like other cultures do. We start feeling less worthy. Or some don't want to face mortality. Many things going on here.
One thing I do tell people sometimes, esp my students. "I'm 23." When they start to look at me funny, b/c of course kids are terrible judges of age, then I say, "At least! haha" It's just my little way of having fun with my day, b/c of course I don't expect them to believe me but it's true--I am that at least.

I don't mind it so much when someone is that old. I told my g-ma that there must be a special card issued to those over 80 that gives them license to say whatever they want and grandma took full advantage of that. Sometimes it really stung.
I'm 60 years old and know exactly what Stepka is talking about. I don't want guess either. Generally, when they tell me their age, those bold enough to go on and on about it, I am blown away as I think to myself "Seriously, you're 62? I would guessed at least 68." Once in the past a man asked me to guess his age and I guessed 50, being kind and generous. The man was 42. Oops. Don't play that game anymore. This was not a nice man and this error seemed to make him vengeful.
How old do I look? Older. My main concern is how I feel by exercising and eating right. Perhaps, never having the good looks in my younger life, I am just not that obsessed?
I don't think when you look in the mirror everyday that you may see the impact of aging so that is a few words in defense of those vain individuals. I also think this is why when my husband and I look at classmates online that they look SO old, not like us of course. We just say "Boy, glad we don't look that old." Then, we laugh knowing that is more likely than not the case.
Given the choice of looking 40 years younger or feeling 40 years younger, feeling would win out every time.
Probably younger than a boomer but pulled this off another thread b/c he's a perfect example of the types of things that people just come right out and say and I have to wonder why they'd leave themselves open to ridicule. (Probably b/c they feel safe with me.)

I chat up women of all ages, sometimes they happen to be in the college age group, and they are frequently more relaxed and less uptight than women closer to my age and I find this very appealing. It helps that I look significantly younger and I'm in good shape.
^^^^^^^^^This guy sounds so pathetic - he's so flattered that younger women are talking with him ? Well he sounds like he standing there chatting in there face ! The women are probably just be polite, hoping he'll go find people his own age to chat with !
The guy mentioned a post up is probably near or in a college town like we are and the younger girls and guys are drawn to older men/women because they are missing mom/dad or in our case, grandma/grandpa. I guess whatever he needs to tell himself to make it through another day!
