I spotted some cute L.L. Bean shorts that looked like new at a thrift shop. And boy, was I bummed they were too small on me thanks to my expanding waistline. Typically, the size I try on fits, however L.L. Bean seemed to run smaller than average. There were none in my size.

I buy a lot from them, the clearance items. What I have found is that the sizes are "wild". One size 14, I can't get close to buttoned, another fits perfectly and another slides down to my hips. Anything out of China is usually just all over the place. They use different contractors to cut and sew. So, maybe it was the shorts.

In my limited experience with L.L. Bean, I've found their sizes to run large. I once ordered a shirt in an L because I wanted it to fit over my chest and not be too tight, and it was closer to how I'd expect an XL to fit. I sent it back and got an M, which fit fine.

This has been my experience too. Especially with jackets and coats.
