I think you'll find that I've not argued either point.

Dad wore a "uniform" at work, simple blue shirt and pants. When got promoted, he mostly wore khaki type pants and a dress shirt. This would have been in the 80s sometime. Before that he always wore a suit and tie to church, funerals, etc. He stopped wearing a hat in 68, said he wore one enough in Vietnam, wasnt going to put on another one. I do remembere my gramps and great gramps both wearing a hat of some sort pretty much all the time, except at the table, during church, and when the national anthem was played, or a prayer outside of church was being said.

Hmmm, could be, but Id tend to think alot of those men were raised on a farm, where a hat is pretty much standard equipment ,and the habit stuck with them. Of course the style changed, to make them look more sophisticated, but they still wore a hat.

I am an engineer in my late 20s. I wear jeans and polo to work. I even wear my Nike Airmax.
And on Friday, we dress up casual meaning some people wearing t shirt! LOL
But still no shorts and sandals are allowed.
After all, I guess we need to be comfortable if we need to sit 8 or more hours a day staring at the computer screen.
Some people even replace their chairs with balls or those massage chair thingy. AYAYAY!

In my generation or younger, people who wear top hat and those attires (canes, monocles, etc) are considered to be weirdos or eccentric ones.
Although I personally think it looks dapper.

Certain areas around here in Texas, I see a lot of cowboy hats.

Wearing a hat gives a man something to doff when he wants to make that particular flourish of deference.

But alas, these days men hardly ever defer to anyone for any reason.

I like the Indiana Jones type hat and of course the cowboy hat in certain locales. They even have mesh ones for golf. I find men who wear them to be curiously more interesting.

My dad wore a suit every day at the office and wing tip shoes, no hat. My last husband though he wore three piece suits relaxed that look by favoring tassel loafers instead.

Why? Because that way of dressing is expensive, uncomfortable, and out of style

The only hat I'll wear is a beanie in the winter. I just don't see the appeal.

I see a lot of narrow-brim fedoras and pork pie hats on young men.
