There is lot of attention given to petite pants. Several stores carry petite or short pants like Express or The Limited but that is where they end. It seems like everyone ignores the fact that petite women tend to be short all around and not just their legs.

I use to buy petite pants and wear regular tops. But I notice in most cases it does make a difference and looks rather off if I wear regular top. I was wondering to all the other petite ladies out there (I don't mean petite as in skinny but short ladies could be chubby or skinny) do you pay attention to your tops? Is it important to buy petite tops or dress.

So I am weirdly proportioned. I am 5'4" with a short torso/long legs. This means that for me I get average pants if I want ankle length, and tall if I want to wear shoes that aren't flats. I also have "average" length arms for my height. But petite tops when you find them assume a shorter torso than average and shorter arms. As a short torsoed person, I find a petite top is more likely to hit me at my natural waist, of course the arms are too short! But I am also busty, so that also ends up "balancing" out some of the regular tops.

If you are shorter I can see how it would make a huge difference, but I also find shirts hard to fit, particularly tailored ones, if you have the "wrong" proportions.

All of those places have PLENTY of petite tops, too!

I can wear a petite top, but not petite pants.

Petite tops make a difference just like petite pants. The sleeves are proportioned, the length and the back of the top does not gape.

Depends on your build, too. If you're petite with an average length torso, you can wear pretty much any style that is scaled down to petite proportions. If you're petite with a short torso (as I am), certain styles will look boxy and unflattering even in petite sizes.

As long as you fit their mold. Do not shop at uniqlo if you are busty or have a well defined waist. The clothing is not cut for you!

Pretty much like Asians when looking for western clothes have to fit the mold - bigger boobs, bigger waistline...even the smallest size in American clothing isnt really that small... size 0 is for people who have 25-26 inch waist. A person who is 4'10 and normal weight would still find American smallest size huge.

Actually, UNIQLO is good for well-defined waist. It is not good for women who have pot-bellies(common among average American women). Their women's jeans look good on people who have small waist and bubble butt(bubble butt - the firm one, not the ghetto booties)...esp their tapered pants

My daughter has that issue with her proportions. A short torso and long legs definitely look nicer than long torso and short legs though...I'm the same height as my daughter but my legs are about 6" shorter than hers. She used to have a lot of trouble finding shirts that fit until she got busty and the shirts quit seeming so long on her.
