I'm more restricted with red hair, though. I like dark red but that's about it. I don't like yellow lashes and pasty skin, which is the real issue I have with red hair.
My least favorite hair color on a man is red, but only because I never see cute red-headed men. But it's very nice on women. Love Julianne Moore's color. Had red streaks in my hair for a while.
I like dark hair and so does my hubby (though I am blonde, he always says I should go brunette)
Neither of us like redhead color, though I think a auburn redish brown is pretty. Blonde is ok, just not bleached like.. more subtle. I absolutely dont like pink, purple, blue, green ect hair. Looks so stupid. Black also dont care for but it works well on certain people.

Actually, I get what you mean - red hair seems trickier somehow on men, but they probably aren't as prone to get it from a bottle.
My personal preference is "a good man." I don't care about the color of their hair one way or the other, or even if they HAVE hair. That being said, my husband is a natural blonde (now mostly gray but still with a head full of gorgeous hair) with piercing blue eyes, chiseled cheekbones, a strong jaw, sensual mouth, and an aquiline nose. I swear he looks like an old school Viking or something. I can imagine him in a suit of armor or carrying a big sword and shield into battle - or home from battle.
