Prepping my clothes for the week, I turned to one of my fave items (I've attached an image of something similar).

I picked up a pleather a-line knee length pleated skirt. I was uncertain due to the shape. With the positioning at the natural waist, it required a shorter top or something tucked. But on th other hand it was a good personification of the I my head version of my personal style: edgy preppy with interesting basics. it was on sale for $40 so I decided to branch out.

On the first day I wore it, I got lots of compliments from my colleagues. Now I have had the skirt for a year, it is a fall/winter piece. And it is still everyone's favorite. One friend references the skirt as her favorite all time outfit of mine. It passed the mom test. Random people have complimented me as well. And my sister wants to copy me.

So what item in your wardrobe has universal appeal?

isn't it great getting compliments? especially from strangers (as long as it's not done in a creepy way).

I have a pair of lace-up brown leather boots with some charcoal felt detailing. Somewhere between a dress boot and a casual boot and I wear them with jeans or chinos. I've owned them for maybe 2-3 months and I have easily gotten more compliments on them than anything else I own. Both guys and girls, friends and strangers.

My topcoat. I wish it wasn't that, because I'm so much prouder of almost everything else in my wardrobe. And it's really a fairly "standard" topcoat...nothing too crazy.

I love scarves, as well as vintage jewelry and those are the items I get the most compliments on.

I also have a lot of items that are cobalt blue or have a lot of cobalt blue in them. Apparently that's a good color for me because whenever I wear that color, people compliment the outfit or say, "Wow, I love that color!" I have a cobalt blue Michael Kors purse as well. Now, I have several Michael Kors purses because I love their shapes, but people will literally stop in their tracks out in public and say, "I LOVE that purse." I honestly think it's the color, not the brand, that catches their eye.

I love cobalt blue too. It is a "neutral" for me as it really compliments so many other colors too!

Yes! I consider it almost as much a neutral for me as black or brown. So much goes well with it, in every season. It looks great with black, white, lime green, hot pink, deep coral or red or fuschia (unfortunately not a color I can wear well), etc. and I love the way silver looks with it!

Im a dude so for me its simple. I always get complimented on my work shirts. They arent custom tailored but I get them all from Nordstrom and have them altered there to my specific measurements and then they are monogramed. Same thing with my jeans. Free alterations for perfect fitting is fantastic. It helps that I have a flat stomach, "V" shape and according to the ladies, a nice bottom.

Sadly, most of my work is from home so my "work attire" is usually shorts and Lululemon t-shirts.

My husband buys many of his clothes from Nordstrom. You're right - they have some beautiful mens' shirts. He gets compliments on them whenever he wears them.
