I'm thinking about storing some of my less worn clothes in plastic tubs. These would be seldom worn pieces, special event pieces, or out of season clothes. The reason I'm thinking about a plastic storage tub is it will keep out bugs while it is stored away. This way, I can put it in the back of the closet without worrying about bugs and also I have more space for the daily wear. I don't want to squish it down with space bags, and I don't want to use cloth bags, as bugs could probably chew through it? Does anyone do this? I have no extra space for seasonal clothes, and I hate having my drawers full of everything all season long. I'm also thinking about getting rid of my dresser drawers, because I'm thinking bugs might like those dark drawers? Will bugs stay out of these tubs?

Do you have a big bug problem by you? When I lived up north some of the dry cleaners would store your winter clothes for you after dry cleaning them which was great if you didn't have the storage room.

If you are going to use plastic tubs I would make sure everything is washed or dry cleaned before storing them. I would also throw in some cedar blocks NOT moth balls so the clothes don't smell musty.

I've always found that clothes stored in plastic tubs get a weird odor, even clean clothes stored with a few dryer sheets tucked in to scent them. It might be because I stored them in the garage, which can be pretty humid when it's humid outside, but it just smells like hot plastic tub and it's difficult to get the odor out of the clothes later on.

If I store clothes in cardboard boxes, I don't have the same problem. My husband keeps most of his dress shirts in a cardboard box in our closet and they just smell like clean laundry when he takes the box down and goes through it.

It sounds like you have a bug problem you need to deal with?
I store shoes in a plastic tub under the bed. This year they formed mildew, even sealed up, so it seems like air circulation is important.

That's what I do. I tried using those space bags but they never stayed totally flat the whole time.
I just put a cedar block in with them and of course once I am ready to pull them out, toss them in the washer. I never have an issue with anything getting into them.

I have stored clothes in plastic totes with no issues. I usually store them with a dryer sheet or two on top.

If you get a "weird odor", there's always the washing machine ...

I know people who have stored their clothing in tubs and had no issues.
Personally I don't have enough clothes to store excess items because there are none.
I wear the same clothing no matter what the season and winter items are readily available in a small basket near the front door because I have just what I wear and need, no excess.
