However in my search for marled yarn men's sweaters, marle seemed to refer to color. Or maybe the yarns are twisted but they are finer than in your example.
Marked yarn, whatever type of fiber it is made of, is just yarn where the plies (individual threads twisted into a single stand of yarn) are different shades/colors. It creates a different visual effect than single-shade/single color yarn. One currently common type of marl is the base cover twisted along with white and/or paler shades in the same color.
