For example most people I know who tell people their age are told they don't look that age but if I tell someone I'm 42 they don't seem surprised at all. I heard a 22 year old tell someone they were shocked they were 45 but didn't seem surprised at my age. Most people tell me I have no wrinkles but then aren't surprised by my age. I'm very depressed about it.
I am certain I look like I am supposed to look at the age of 56 no matter what anyone says or thinks and honestly I do not care nor have I cared what others think for about 50 years now. Their opinion is useless to me.
I've never worried about this sort of thing. Even if you looked a decade younger than you are, you would still be your actual age. If someone tells you you look younger, it is a bonus. Nothing more and nothing less. This does not affect your value as a person, nor does it subtract years from you life.
jojo775, I understand what you're saying. But you should think about your question:
"Do you feel you look older if someone doesn't say you look younger?"
You are giving the power of YOUR HAPPINESS over to someone else.
Don't let this age thing depress you.
When you are 62, you are going to be kicking yourself for how you let others dictate to you, your own happiness. You'll be kicking yourself for being depressed because you were worried about not looking young enough when you were in your 40's.
It doesn't matter at all. It just doesn't.
This whole societal "you musn't look old" crap is really... really.... getting lame.
I tend to think that when someone says, "Oh, I never would have guessed! You look much younger" that they're just blowing smoke.
I have never been unhappy about the age I am, although I know some people go through a terrible time when reaching a certain birthday - 30, 40 - it's all the same to me.
First off, don't tell people how old you are. None of their business. If you must tell them, add 10 or 15 years and see if they say, "Oh, I never would have guessed! You look much younger"
I get the "you look much younger" but I think it may be more my attitude and demeanor than my actual looks. In any case, I'm not fretting about how I look.
