I finally need an eyebrow pencil - waterproof preferably - I know nothing about them. Is there a store where I can test the shades on my finger before I buy them? Does Sephora or Ulta let you do this? Thank you.
I really can't do eyebrow pencil. No matter what I look like I did it with a sharpie pen. That's why I went with a pomade type. Brush it on, powder over it to set...easy peasy and it looks real.
There are lots of types of brow products, from pencils and pomades to mascara gels...

Save yourself time and from making mistakes. Schedule an appointment with an eyebrow specialist at Ulta, they do a beautiful job and they'll advise on color, brand and show you how to use a pencil. I think they also do eyebrow dye.
The secret is short feathery strokes with a light hand.
Yeah...I'm not good at it, tried and tried. My feathery strokes look like logs...honestly, the colored pomade with a powder worked very well for me, as did the fiber mascara type.
My sister uses pencil for a spot where she pulled two grey hairs and they didn't grow back, and I see what she does, but I just can't...
Mechanical eyebrow pens are so popular --and expensive these days. I've tried a few recently. They're minimum $22 but sadly the 'lead' is only about an inch long at most (I have used only three different brands and they were all about one inch long). This will last only two months if you use it only a few days a week. They do look much better than the old fashioned pencils that you have to sharpen, but if you accidentally break the marker substance, that's an expensive loss.
I've been using Maybelline's BrowDrama and at first I liked it (color match was perfect) but now I hate it! It's too clumpy like mascara and it's so hard to remove! I feel like I'm removing any remaining hairs I have left. I appreciate the tips, I'll look into these other items and I am considering the Ulta appointment.

I think eyebrow brushes with powdered shades looks more natural. You make little feathered marks like real eyebrows.
You can find an eyebrow brush at any place where there are makeup brushes.
You have some eyeshadows in shades of your eyebrows (like brown)? Use those to test the colors.
I use a couple of my dark brown eyeshadow shades with an eyebrow brush. It looks more natural than an eyebrow pencil.
