Is it me, or is there a trend in the mid-range fashion segment to consolidate seasonal collections? I know that the fast fashion segment produces several collections per year (hence the name fast), while premium and luxury brands typically have spring, pre-fall, fall, and resort/cruise. However, in the mid-range segment there seems to be a trend of consolidation of collections.

With my favorite brand, they merged summer with spring back in either 2014 or 2015. Now it seems like this year they have merged their holiday collection with their fall collection, with fewer holiday products than last year.

I wonder, could sustainability be the reason for consolidating collections? Perhaps these more limited run collections don't sell as much and left them with unsold inventory. I know in the premium and luxury segment the transitional collections are actually often the most profitable, however, I can't be sure the same applies in the mid-range segment. I know with my favorite brand's summer collections they were often things like short sleeve button-down shirts and swimwear; that is now included in Spring. Holiday was often things like holiday-colored plaids and fair isle sweaters.

I don't track seasonal collections. I doubt many do. But what I do look for are clothes that I can wear through multiple seasons. Probably 75% of my wardrobe can be worn at any time of year. So perhaps the brands are capitalizing on that sort of thing.

Most of my items are Spring. This year I bought three Fall shirts (one dark green polo and two button-downs, one being a green plaid and the other being a red/black gingham, the latter I plan to wear on Christmas Eve).
