I was wondering, has there ever been a specific clothing item that you consider a spiritual successor to a past clothing item, such as one that has been damaged or no longer fits?
My prime example is my Spring 2018 IZOD Windward Interlock Polo in Fairy Tale, which I consider the spiritual successor to my Spring 2015 Interlock Polo in the same color. Sadly, my Spring 2015 Interlock Polo in Fairy Tale was damaged either by bleach or pool chlorine on the back, and the release of the Spring 2018 Windward Interlock Polo in the same color was a dream come true.
Since they are three years apart, I don't think it was actually designed to replace the Spring 2015 version, but shares the nice innocent look of it. Some differences are that the Spring 2015 has navy blue stripes on the collar and inside the placket, while the Spring 2018 is wholly pink, and the Spring 2018 has a wider placket and the IZOD insignia the chest, and no external red IZOD tag. Also, the Spring 2015 was made in Egypt while the Spring 2018 was made in India.
Do you have any clothing items do you consider a spiritual successor to a past clothing item?
Well, is there any clothing item that you have that was damaged or no longer fits you, and a newer clothing item that you consider a spiritual successor, such as being somewhat similar in style that it has the same feel as the old clothing item?
Now, I don't wear them, but I have to say that the 2-sizes-too-tight suits with high water pants could be the "spiritual successors" of the lime green leisure suit; both were/are incessantly hyped by the fashion industry, and both made/make 99+% of the wearers look like a TOTAL DOOFUS.
In the years between those two would be the jeans falling off your butt - no, it doesn't make you look like a rapper, it makes you look like a refrigerator repairman.

I kinda understand you. As of right now, I don't have any spiritual successor to some of the items that have gotten stolen.
Well, I think it is an interesting question. For me, it would be my much loved wool cardigan. It is a pretty, thick, yellow, 100% wool sweater with gold buttons. When I think back, it seems I do gravitate to thick, wooly sweaters. I can think of three other wooly sweaters I owned and loved from different decades. Most of these were actual wool, but one might have been a blend.
None of these would have been considered high fashion. But I have loved being warm inside them.
Sure, but much more so in footwear and outerwear since they tend to last the longest and the purchase decision is more weighted. For instance, my Wolverine hiking boots are the spiritual successor to the prior pair....
My current three quarter length winter overcoat is the spiritual successor - or more aptly in your construct - the 'young turk' to the senior 'not yet retired' older overcoat. But will assume the 'spiritual successor' mantle soon.
Once I walked into a store wearing my old tennis shoes and after purchasing a new pair (before I exited the store) I changed into the new shoes in the vestibule area and placed the old pair in the garbage can which felt like a much more succinct transition, like two track runners handing off the baton on a relay race and I was the baton.
I had a pair of brown socks once. When I went to buy the same pair they didn't have it so I bought another brown pair. I suppose they were spiritual bro's.
