Do not buy those cheap high heels, if you don't wear heels. You will look ridiculous when you can't walk or worse when you hurt yourself because they snap off. I have spent a lifetime in heels & I never go higher than 3 1/2" in a good shoe. Those $35 bucaneer boots Birdiebelle linked would be perfect for a one time costume.

Or as suggested, go buy some nice quality black leather boots with a low under 2" heel which you will be able to wear again. And then add a big black satin or black velvet temporary cuff to them for the party costume. Just take fabric & stitch a tube twice as wide as the cuff needs be and tuck it into top of boot & fold over. Or buy wide black ribbon/bow in the Halloween decorations & cannibalize it into boot tops that you tie around the top. Or just wear black tights with wear again black boots & concentrate on the hat and layers of pirate treasure jewelry!

Remember this thread when you wind up wearing either a cast or a boot for a broken foot or ankle. That is a large risk to take for the sake of a laugh. That aside if you have no arch and an orthotic does not fit you will be in pain and wind up taking the boots off after 10 minutes. Given your post, I wold not order boots to use for a Halloween party.

I'm already 5'10" without heels. It's awesome. But these boots are not a good idea given what you've shared with us.

I agree with DubbleT. Go to a shoe store and try on some heels and boots in person.
What's sexy about it though? No seriously. It's a full covered dress. Nothing is peeking out or skin tight etc. Sounds kinda prudish especially considering usually women pirate costumes look like they are ready for a porn shoot. This one doesn't look like that at all. It's simply modest, pretty, and feminine. Again even older women are wearing it on Amazon.

I went to the mall after I posted last night and tried on boots. Especially stilettos since apparently those are what the Halloween costume boots are. I walked perfectly fine in them. They are not toothpicks. That is an exaggeration. They are thick enough to walk. I walked concise and slow. I know not to walk faster in shoes I typically don't wear. The only thing I didn't like is that I indeed looked like a giant in them.

If I order today they should be here by the 23. That would give me seven days to practice walking in them. When I come home from work I'll just walk around in them for a few hours each day until Halloween.

Prudish? No. Just trying to stop you from being the topic of gossip in the office.

Let's not play coy. The costume is a literal embodiment of a sex fantasy. Lace-up bodice (with the model's cleavage peeking out) and short skirt.

The most ironic part of this is that the boots you're asking about are called "sexy pirate boots." But whatever.

Forgive me, but if that is the plan and you have ignored the advice given you, I have to ask why did you bother to ask?

I see nothing sexy about the costume. It seems feminine and modest to me. I also work at a university so I see students and my fellow coworkers wearing actual revealing things daily on campus.

Because I never asked should I get heels or not. I had already made my mind up to get them. I asked what size should I get, and would the extra height look bad for someone who is already 5'6.

I had confidence, but now I'm scared to get them. You all are talking about sprained ankles and what not just for a hour of wear.

What does heel to toe mean on the sizing chart? I was going to get a ten,but the nine says its a heel to toe ten so should I get that?

Oh I see. So this is your chance to do that also!

You didn't notice that the skirt is open almost to the crotch? You'll need to wear bike shorts under it if you don't want to show off your pirate bloomers.

I'm still confused about how being too tall is the worst thing you can think of about this costume hahaha.

What does that say for those of us who have to walk around with "extra height" every day???

I think you're wise to be concerned.

Use the heel-to-toe measurement on this table to convert it to a size. Remember that cheap things, including costumes, run small.

Can't help you on the sizing because I've never bought costume footwear before, does it give actual measurements in inches or cm that you could use?
People are concerned about the heel because you said you aren't used to heels let alone stilettos. It's extremely easy to 'fall off' a high heel if you aren't used to them and a stiletto doesn't give you any stability at all.
You said you'd change out of the costume after four hours, are you not planning on wearing the boots the whole time? You could probably manage an hour if you don't need to walk around, but four hours without some walking?
Can you return the boots if you don't like them? Order them now and wear them at home to get a feel for them? Sorry but if it were me there's no way in heck I'd wear them under the conditions you describe without knowing for a fact that I could walk around comfortably and naturally first.

I've never worn boots before(or heels for that matter) so I don't know about their sizes difference from a regular shoe if any.

In regular shoes I'm a 9 and 1/2 Wide. I also have no arch. Basically I'm completely flat footed if that matters.

For example for an eight it says its Heel to Toe 9 1/2. Does that mean its really a 9 and half which is indeed my regular show size?

Or should I get the 9 which says heel to toe 10? Since a nine and a half is closer to a ten anyway.

Or should I just a get the size 10? Since apparently these boots don't come in a wide so would size ten make up for that? Or again is the nine really a ten if that's what heel to toe means?

Also I'm 5'6 so how tall will these 4 1/2" heels make me? Or would there even be a noticeable difference since I'm already tall(ish) for a woman?

Also is it true costumes run small? I did my measurements and I got 35(maybe 37?),38,34. So should I get a medium or large to be on the safe side?

To answer your actual questions - Yes, I think you should definitely order the size 10 shoes. They will probably fit you and if anything would be a tiny bit large which is much better than having them be too small.

Same with the costume itself - cheaper items like this tend to run small and you can always deal with something that might be a tad large, but if the costume is too small, you will be totally out of luck.

I think it's a cute costume and not too revealing. If you're worried about that, you could always wear a pair of black bike type shorts underneath the skirt. Hope you have fun at your party!

I see nothing of the sort. It's very modest as far as female costumes go. However, I do own black tights as well as black shorts if it came to that.

Because I'm already a bit self conscious about my height at 5'6. Those high heeled boots I tried on a the mall made me look like a giant. I towered over everyone in the store as well as the display cases. Blame society for saying women aren't feminine or attractive if they are taller than 5'3 or 5'5.

I tried some on at the mall. I walked fine in them. The extra height to my 5'6 frame honestly was my biggest problem. The four hours was me thinking I can keep them on for the rest of the work day to show off my costume in all its glory, but you all got me so scared that just the hour party will be fine. Then I'll take them off and put my regular shoes back on. Also even at the party I would be sitting down. The only walking I would be doing is to cross the street from my building to the party venue.

Also are the Halloween boots in my link really stilettos? They seem thicker than that.
