Toxic levels in her home put family at risk, say experts.

A woman in Minnesota lost part of her vision and inadvertently put her entire household at risk of mercury poisoning, most likely from using beauty products containing high levels of the toxic chemical, according to a case report shared exclusively with CNN.

The report, shared by Dr. Erin Batdorff with the Minnesota Poison Control System, details the extensive symptoms experienced by the woman, also a mother, and how home visits conducted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) found high levels of mercury in her children's bedrooms, bedding, household towels and laundry area.

Mercury is outlawed in cosmetics by the FDA so she apparently got the cream from some other source. Beware out there!

On the link, there's another link to a list of the cremes that were tested. All the cremes were from foreign sources. China, Mexico, Pakistan, Cambodia,...a couple more also.

Well, I can imagine that mercury causes irritation, local swelling, which makes wrinkles appear to be reduced.

If they're not having themselves injected with the most powerful neurotoxin known, they're slathering themselves with mercury compounds.

Maybe it's time to rethink the whole wrinkles thing?

These are women using creams from other countries.

In other words, they're so obsessed with their wrinkles that they'll smear unknown chemicals from unknown sources next to their eyes.

They weren't wrinkle creams. They were skin lightening creams.

That's even nuttier.

Does anyone remember "Black is Beautiful"?

Doesn't it occur to anyone that a chemical powerful enough to change the color of your skin can't possibly be safe?

There are people that change their eye color via surgery.

I guess some people have issues with certain things. I cannot imagine skin or especially eye color as a need to be changed.

You can buy skin lightening creams that are gov. FDA regulated. But these particular creams were not regulated, and the levels of mercury were far far far over the legal amount that's considered safe.
