Sarah Jessica Parker's dress looked like the nightgown my mother bought me before I went off to school. OK, my nightgown was thin polyester and the top part was some flimsy fabric. But having classy fabrics didn't help SJP, IMO, that dress draped weirdly and was not flattering.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was lovely in that colorful gown, yet I've read and heard several negative comments regarding her ensemble which I didn't understand. She looked a lot better on TV than in these pictures Oscar.com - 82nd Red Carpet - Maggie Gyllenhaal

I agree about Maggie's dress. I thought it looked nice. But you may be right that some dresses look better on TV than in still photos.
I did NOT like the purple ruffled number with the odd split. One of the presentors wore it, I forget who, but it was UGGG-LEEEEE!
Did you mean this one worn by Zoe Saldana? She must have done this on purpose to get publicity because she is usually fairly stylish. This dress makes me dizzy.
well, i like Sandra's grow, it was perfect fit for her, gorgeous and beautiful.
