People used to ask the same thing back when men were still wearing suits. Now, you need to ask about both the suit and the hat.

But if anyone dressed that way today he would be mistaken for either a pimp or a gangster.

I like to wear hats. Though I mostly wear berets, I have a fedora and do wear it. And I recently bought a 20's style cloche'.

I feel classy in hats; however, I don't like to remove them because of "hat hair". Once it's on it stays on.

Love all those old 40's movies when the men really dressed well -

Cant stand men in baseball caps - whats wrong? Didnt wash your hair? Are you bald? I love a man with a lush, full head of hair - could not stomach a bald man - yuck

Good thing my husband is Italian.

That's a lovely hat.
If I could afford them, I would buy at least six of Barbara Feinman's hats in NYC.

The problem is, I am usually in slacks.
I wear, in the summer, a wide brimmed hat with a mesh crown.
The British make some way out hats for women, but some are also lovely.

Barneys in New York carries some great woman's hats, and many of them appear to be wearable with slacks:

Barney's started out as a men's store, so their men's hats may be nice, too, but it is much easier to find haberdashers, I think, than milliners.

I was given to understand by a young man several years ago that hats are in style. I believe he liked a porkpie? And I do see this style in shops for men and women. They are usually cheapies though.

It is hard to wear a hat in summer because it's so hot, but the wide brim offers protection.
We have purchased wide brimmed hats that are mesh around the crown.

I have never bought from this company, but they have that sort of sun hat, and the ones we got are the crushable ones that can fit in a suitcase for traveling.

These are in the men's section. They don't seem to have this type of hat in the woman's hat area, which is dumb, in my opinion. Women don't get cancer?

When I purchase a new hat the first thing I do is to scotch guard it really well unless it is a hat that can be washed. Felt and wool hats can get messed up by water. Summer hats made of cloth can get dirty from skin oils from your hands. Scotch guard tends to protect from rain, keeps the hat cleaner, and if it does get dirty the dirt does not sink into the fabric so it can be cleaned off more easily.

I also scotch guard the upper parts of nice woolen winter coats. In so doing it is not so easy for the rain to penetrate the fabric and soak you.
