Me and my wife are looking for a few days away without the kids. This will be kind of like a honeymoon I guess.

Question is, how nice is the lake during the summer? I zoomed in on Google Maps and it doesn't look too impressive. I use to live in Neosho, MO and went to the lake once when I was a kid. I don't remember much about it though. I didn't pay attention to cleanliness or quality. Now I live in Jefferson City, MO and can't simply drive down to the lake to check it out. (I could but she thinks that's a stupid idea... )

I took her to Grand Lake in Oklahoma last summer and she was not impressed. It was muddy and the water was not deep where we were swimming.

Any recommendations on where we could stay? Our budget would probably be something like $150 per night.

I have never been on Beaver Lake but you might want to look into Bull Shoals, Norfork and even Ouachita. All three are very clean lakes and Bull Shoals and Norfork would be closer for you from Jeff City.

My wife and I spent a week on Bull Shoals back in the late 90's when we still lived in St Louis and had a wonderful time, practically had the lake to ourselves.

I am partial to Ouachita though, since I only live 30 minutes away since moving back to Arkansas.

Who said Beaver Lake was not impressive? From what you said it looks like a blast. I see no reason not to take her now.

We have family in SW MO who will be watching the kids so we were lookng for something close to them.

Thanks for the input all.
