This is my families first summer in Bentonville and we are looking for the atypical place to jump in the water. We prefer to avoid crowded park beaches and don't mind an easy hike in...we do have a three year old. Any gems within an hour of us for a great day relaxing on some big rocks with great swimming? Doesn't have to be deep water.

Regarding boat rentals- anything on beaver lake recommended, or in town we can tow ourselves? Thanks!

I would suggest exploring the Elk River just north of you. There are numerous canoe rentals, and the river is pretty calm. You might want to check out Shadow Lake in Noel, or the park up in Lanagan, MO.

For boat rental, the easiest place is Prairie Creek Marina.

If you really want to spend some time on Beaver Lake, I prefer up by Beaver Dam. It's less crowded and the water is cleaner.

There are several places along the White River and along War Eagle River that would probably suit you, too, only I have no idea the road names to tell you how to get there.

Oh, and PS--you might enjoy checking out Lake Leatherwood, on the way to Eureka Springs.
