Sometimes I find stories of the Civil War interesting and am looking forward to visiting the battlefield at Pea Ridge. I was a little surprised it extended that far west (although I shouldn't be... there was a skirmish in Arizona west of Tucson).

Are there other areas where Civil War battles or events took place in NWA?

Prairie Grove battlefield is a great visit too. Google is your friend, lots of info on the war of northern aggression in northwest Arkansas.

Your link doesn't work.

Here is a link to the Battles of the Civil War in Arkansas. Maybe it will work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...ar_in_Arkansas

If you are interested in Civil War history, you should visit the Headquarters House in Fayetteville, as well as the Confederate Cemetery on the western slope of Mt. Sequoyah.

There was a battle in Fayetteville-proper. The rebels burned the city upon retreat, including the town's first college (Arkansas College), which is the actual namesake for College Avenue. The University of Arkansas was unrelated to Arkansas college, and founded 7 years post-war.

I think Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park is better than Pea Ridge's park, as far as historical interpretation , etc. The Confederate Cemetery in Fayetteville was where many of the dead from that battle were interred. Many of the bodies were dug up and moved up there in the years after the war.
