My mom told me last night that her cabin neighbor said that Wal-Mart just laid off 800 people up in Bentonville. Anyone else heard this?

Yes, Wal-Mart GO has been cleaning house. New CEO, and Wal-Mart tends to do this about every seven or eight years. They get overstaffed, and clean house. While I'm sure the economy weighed in on the scope of the lay-offs. I know two of the people laid-off this time, both hired during the past year, so no seniority, but some people who were laid-off had worked there much longer.

yes, this is true, it has little to do with the economy and more to do with a pattern Wal-Mart has as DC mentioned. Of course the state of our country probably played some part..

Yep it's true, and I can see the for sale signs on houses here in my subdivision, where many HQ workers live.

I did hear from a few at church, there was a pretty good package for most of them. I can't understand why anyone would already have their house up for sale, it hasn't even been 2 weeks, most people wait until they find another job before they decide to sell or certainly wait more than 10 days.

The 800 layoffs happened a few weeks ago. It's outdated news. In fact, this morning, NPR had a story about an additional 200 layoffs that apparently just happened.
