It looks like this is going to happen.

Whats scary is the trend of citizens actively WANTING a tax increase. This same thing happened with the Prescott tax increase last year.

How did we get to this point? People so nuts that they are now basically campaigning for tax increases. This is like the realization of paradise according to governments. Get the public thinking that more tax is good for them.

So why doesn't the city bring the tax increase to the ballot and let the citizens of Cottonwood vote on it? It will get struck down, dumb ex-Commiefornians.

lol I cant get enough of it. Its like a governments dream come true. Look at those dopes and their signs. "Build reserves". "Saving for the future". They have no idea how governement works. All this does is show them they can increase taxes every couple years with no push back. All they are gonna do is give bigger pensions and build a city hall.

So... instead of taxes, you guys just wait for nature to grow roads and school buildings.
Sounds like a plan. A bizarre plan, but hey.. it is still a plan...

No, its called being fiscally responsible. There are WAY more then enough taxes. The problem is the people handling the funds. Its like a open bar thats out of control.

But hey, keep believing that narrative that tax money just goes to build new roads and schools

It builds a thousand other things.
And opposite of popular belief, the USA has some of the lowest taxes in the world.

Child.. I wish. I am born in Europe...Now a US citizen, and no, not a lover of the dems. Sales tax is 21 %, then there is VAT taxes for cars, boats and all the more expensive stuff. A 300.000 dollar house is over there just a row house.
Have you been out the country, or state?????

Not even in the top 25

Yeah, like handouts for the non-productive, ridiculous pay & benefits for politicians and .gov employees, not to mention obscene retirement benefits for the latter.

Good luck with that

There is an interesting reader comment at the bottom of the linked article in the OP:

"Now for the rest of the story. The handful of citizens who advocated for the tax hike were rec center pickle ball players who were concerned about the rec center being closed or privatized. Neither one of these options was ever really on the table. By putting it on as a possible cost cutting measure, this red herring had the desired effect of bringing in a small group of single issue demonstrators led by a self described "agitator" to beg for a tax increase so they could continue to play pickle ball. Whether by design or coincidence it could not have worked out better for those city officials pushing hard for tax increases. The rec center is safe and sound and is not going anywhere. Phil Terbell is right. To many of our residents can't afford to pay more for daily necessities. There are council members who are pushing for spending cuts but we need more citizen watchdogs on the dais, not more lap dogs."

If that comment is to be believed, then all I can do is sigh and facepalm. It is not the government's responsibility to provide pickleball, let alone government-run recreation centers! That's what aggravated me, as a Libertarian, with the whole "tea party" movement. Cut cut cut, they'd demand... but none of the benefits *they* actually want or use! Just cut someone else. That sort of inconsistency is why they've faded away as a political force.
