That's a start.

Now to move on>>>
How fast will the Gulf bounce back from the BP oil spill? - CSMonitor.com

Scientists have found plumes of oil in deeper parts of the Gulf, with one plume encroaching within 20 miles of Pensacola.

Moreover, oil-eating bacteria munching on the spill, out-compete phytoplankton – the basis of the Gulf food chain – for other nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen, in essence starving the phytoplankton.

"It shifts the whole food web," says Snyder.

"What a lot of us are concerned about is about the impact of a spill of this magnitude where things may recover or seem to recover, but we get this subtle degradation of the environment that's hard to quanity from repeated impacts," says Snyder. "There is a point of no return where we exceed the resilience of the environment. Have we done that [with the Gulf oil spill]? We don't know."

That article is correct, the gulf will repair itself as the earth does in every aspect of it's existence, in it's own geological time. That may also include ridding itself of us at some point. We can't really hurt the planet at all, just ourselves. I wonder what the next dominate species will be when we are gone, as we will be very soon in geological time? We are probably the least adapted or logical species to dominate the earth since it's birth.

Of course they have run into another issue:

A pivotal moment in the Gulf oil crisis hit an unexpected snag Tuesday evening when officials announced they needed more time before they could begin choking off the geyser of crude at the bottom of the sea.

BP and federal officials did not say what prompted the decision or when the testing would begin on a new, tighter-fitting cap it had just installed on the blown-out well. The oil giant had been scheduled to start slowly shutting off valves on the 75-ton cap, aiming to stop the flow of oil for the first time in three months.

I would agree with this if it was just oil. The great unknown is the massive amounts of dispersant being used. I fear this will do more damage than simply allowing the oil to spill and be cleaned up. Of course the corexit (dispersants) break up the oil and make it less visible (less of a PR issue for BP).

Once it is stopped then BP will begin the systematic denying any oil that shows up is theirs. Every incedent will be a separate case of "Prove it is ours and did not occure naturally or has been floating out there for years". It has already begun. These bastards will never really be held responsible. Beyond the money Obama got them to post, (Thank God for that at least), that will probably be the only money anyone ever sees.

exactly. They don't know what it will do but it looks better than all the oil.
