Great information! They sell them at WalMart too. I was going to buy one during the tax free week but I never got around to it. This thread just reminded me of that...

A weather radio is an ABSOLUT MUST for us in Florida!!!
We didn't have any other resources during the storms, other then a handheld TV (battery operated) and a weather radio/ alert I have gotten with my points from a huge cigarette maker, since I used to smoke.
That thing is awesome, and came in so handy.....
I can highly recommend it...

most of the 30 dollar radios go off all the time for every type of alert including fires, wind, lake warnings, amber alerts. I got the customizable midland radio at qvc.com for 65 dollars, i disabled all alerts except for severe weather.

You want to be sure you are getting a Public Alert radio with SAME technology. My Midland one didn't last long, but that may be a fluke. I now have one from Radio Shack. It cost me $75.

Which midland model did you buy? I don't see the $65 one on qvc...
