Two more crossing guards hit in separate incidents:

We are advocates of getting rid of school crossing guards in Florida. We believe that crossing guards cause confusion to Florida drivers in the already complex Florida driving situation.

We also believe that the schoolbus stop sign is not needed for students over the age of 12. They know how to look both ways and cross the street.

Your no crossing guards solution just isn't possible in many situations where traffic is so heavy it backs up into the street from school drop offs. And I doubt many politicians or voters would support getting rid of folks who are simply trying to protect (mostly) children going to/from school. A few idiot drivers shouldn't dictate laws for the general population.

Kids are so much more distracted these days. Unless we change our culture I personally think the safety of youngsters far outweighs a small inconvenience.

Tell the parents they need to wait off school grounds to pick up their kids instead of the school parking lot and you would get rid of most of the conditions that cause this.

Crossing guards have been around as far back as I can remember and if anything there will probably be more wanted in the future, not less.
