Hi there!

I was wondering if you or anyone you know has been successful in obtaining a teaching position with a Temporary Certification?

I have a liberal arts bachelors degree, but not in education. According to the Florida Education website, it states that due to the need for teachers in Florida, they offer a temporary certification if you have a degree. You can look for employment and then complete the requirements needed for a professional certification over three school years.

I am very interested in pursuing this and to relocate from New Jersey to Florida with my family.

I was looking for any stories you are willing to share or any tips or pointers you can offer.

Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you all!

You may be able to get a certificate, but you're unlikely to get a job right now. Lots of teachers got laid off during the downturn, and places that are now hiring again are going to go to the experienced teachers looking to return to the job and to people with current non-temporary certificates rather than hire a temp credential from out of state.

Unless your degree is high level maths, chemistry, or physics, it's probably not going to happen.

Check out substitute teaching, may be a way in if you are well liked and competent.
