I am wondering how much it costs to set up six computers and a server in a medical office after all the necessary drops were installed. Of course, it would include loading up some Microsoft office and medical office managing software. What is the hourly rate? Does anyone know a good one in PSL and Fort Pierce area?

Ling Ling - it sort of depends on the complexity of your office, the system going in and your applications. With that information, you can determine the cost of your computers and your server from the company you're purchasing them from, and then about a day for an IT guy or 2, again depending upon the complexity of the set up. If you want to PM me with more particulars, I'll ask our wonderful IT folks.

Thank you. I sent you a PM. I know it is complicated but I want to make sure that we are working with good people. The relationship should continue as soon as both sides are reasonable. If they lose my trust, I won't do business with them.

From an IT perspective, this setup doesn't sound very difficult at all. It really depends on how far apart the computers are from the Server. The wiring and cabling being the main issue. All computers and Server would most likely be connected to a hub, switch or router. The installation of software should be a snap.

A couple of efficient IT guys could get this setup in a couple/few hours probably. If this wasn't a medical office, I might even suggest going wireless, which would only add about $100 for a wireless router, and require virtually very little wiring, provided that each computer has a wireless capable NIC. However, considering this is a medical office, Sarbanes Oxley compliance might have an issue with wireless access to such sensitive information. Security encryption might get around that though.

With all the under-employed IT guys out there, a few hundred bucks should probably cover it (labor guesstimate only!).

We got an invoice for $5600 plus other additional fee, totaling $10,000. This is for a two day-three day’s job. We are both very busy and often just rely on friends’ referral. I feel I gave them the business and they are charging us excessively. I have shown the itemized invoice to another group of very good IT people and was told the reasonable price is ~$2500 if we hired a very experienced group (They will do it for $2500). If the original group is dealing with us reasonably, we will continue the working relationship. Now I probably will conclude their work and hire someone else. I won’t give them any referral. Believe me they will lose much more. The whole building is not going to use them.
