Sarasota Airport is closer. If you could get a cheaper flight for St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport (PIE), that is also closer than Tampa airport (TIA).

If you want fluffly powdery white sand, I would take a day trip to Siesta Key, but go during the week day. It is crazy busy on the weekends. I went once and had a very hard time finding parking, unless you want to get there first thing in the morning, then you deal with the crowds.

I have taken my kids to go shark teeth hunting on Venice beach. The sand is not powdery like Siesta key, but it is something fun to do. Look for black objects. These shark teeth are millions of years old. It is a bit of a trip from Anna Maria Island.

I personally prefer the Anna Maria Beaches to Siesta - the sand is just as white and powdery, but there are far less people and not all those big condos lining the beach. It's also nice that there are several neat restaurants like the Sandbar and Gulf Drive to stop in, right on the beach, Siesta does not have that. Coquina also has some nice shade. Just my preference however, and am mentioning it so the OP can decide where he wants to go.

Do you think I need to rent a car or taking a cab from the airport will be sufficient? I think you are describing Anna Maria as one that has it all in one place.
Thank you !

I guess it depends on what you want to do while there. If you just want to stick to the island, I believe they do have a trolley that runs around:

The City of Anna Maria - Island Trolley

If you want to visit other areas you may need a car. Otherwise just get a cab from the airport and relax! I believe you will really enjoy it there, from your posts I think it fills the bill.

Here's a nice general link: The Official Guide to Anna Maria Island

You could do searches for Holmes beach. That is closer to Anna Maria Island than Bradenton.
